Fifth District Enlisted Person of the Year for the Reserve Component Petty Officer 1st Class Kendra Drucker Sector Hampton Roads' Petty Officer 1st Class Kendra Drucker was selected as the Fifth District's 2018 Enlisted Person of the Year-Reserve Component The Massachusetts native joined the Coast Guard in 2004 and attended marine science technician "A"-school. As a member of the Reserve Incident Management Division at Sector Hampton Roads, Portsmouth, Va., she served as a lead petty officer and pollution responder for her unit. After the death of her supervising chief, Drucker stepped up to take on the role, motivating the division to ensure continuity of operations, ensuring a 100 percent qualification rate within the division. She organized a memorial race event in his honor. She deployed twice in 2018, and during Hurricane Florence, she worked in pollution mitigation for more than 105 vessels. In her civilian career, Drucker is a member of the Newport News Police Department in Newport News, Va. Leveraging her positions with both organizations, she streamlined waterside harbor patrols with the NNPD marine unit. Petty Officer Drucker enjoys volunteering for numerous programs with both her military and civilian careers, including organizing a benefit for the SPCA and founding a running club for her fellow police officers. Cultivating relationships with her local community, Drucker created the Criminal Justice Club at Booker T. Washington Middle School for students interested in a law enforcement career. Though Drucker’s already completed her bachelor’s and master’s degrees, she continues to further her education, attaining the ICS Division/Group Supervisor qualification and attending the National Defense University Non-Commissioned Officer/Petty Officer Leadership course. She was presented with her award by Fifth District Commander, Rear Adm. Keith Smith. Seventh District Enlisted Person of the Year for the Reserve Component Petty Officer 1st Class Mary Corbett By Lt. Cmdr. Edward Mosley Sector Charleston’s Petty Officer 1st Class Mary Corbett was selected as the Seventh District's 2018 Enlisted Person of the Year-Reserve Component. Corbett, a marine science technician assigned to the inspections division, was honored for her exemplary commitment and drive in fulfilling critical Incident Command System roles during three separate mobilizations in calendar year 2018 for Hurricanes Irma, Maria, and Florence. During her 58 days of deployment, Corbett led seven facility safety and security inspections and performed 85 container inspections, placing eight containers on hold due to significant safety issues. Setting the example for others to emulate, Corbett was also recognized as the 2018 Reserve Women in Defense-Palmetto Chapter, Non-commissioned Officer 26 RESERVIST � Issue 2 • 2019 Military Woman of the Year. The WID-PC recognizes women serving in the armed forces based on their demonstrated experience displaying leadership, commitment to national security, education, and community as well as the promotion for the advancement and recognition of women. In addition to her impressive work for the Coast Guard, Corbett selflessly volunteered more than 580 hours with multiple not-for-profit organizations, including Charleston Community Sailing, Soldier’s Angels, Pet Helpers, and the South Carolina Aquarium, promoting significant causes. Additionally, Corbett served as a “Women on the Water” sailing program mentor and coach, teaching 14 women to skipper sailing dinghies. Her award was presented by her senior reserve officer, Cmdr. Scott Wolland.
