TAPS Capt. Ned K. Kulp of Chalfont, Pa., passed away peacefully Dec. 26, 2021, in Richlandtown, Pennsylvania, at the age of 94. Born May 26, 1927, and raised in Lansdale, Pennsylvania, he served in the U.S. Merchant Marine from 1945 to 1947. He was commissioned as an officer in the Coast Guard, and he served on active duty during the Korean War. After leaving active duty, Ned continued to serve in the Coast Guard Reserve until his retirement in 1987. Ned married his college sweetheart, Suzanne Glazier, in 1953, and they raised four children together. As a civilian, he worked for his family’s business in snack foods, and he was known by his shipmates to have a stash of cookies around. Capt. Kulp is survived by his four children and four grandchildren. He will be dearly missed by his friends, family, and shipmates. Chief Petty Officer John T. Peacock passed away July 23, 2021, at the age of 77. He was born Sept. 11, 1943, in St. Clair, Michigan, and was raised in Griffith, Indiana, along with six siblings. After graduating Griffith High School in 1961, he joined the Air Force, was discharged, and joined the Griffith Police Department in 1967. In 1971, he enlisted in the Coast Guard and served for 31 years, including a stint as lead REBI instructor at Coast Guard Training Center Cape May, New Jersey. In his free time, he enjoyed traveling, horses, golfing, and fishing. He was survived by his wife Svetlana, as well as many children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Chief Petty Officer Kevin M. King, 59, of Lakeville, Mass., passed away May 6, 2021, at Tufts Medical Center in Boston due to complications from Covid-19. He was born in Tauton, Mass., and graduated Tauton High School in 1980. He then enlisted in the Coast Guard and served four years of active duty aboard the Coast Guard Cutter Vigilant. Afterward, King continued his service in the Coast Guard Reserve for an additional 26 years. He worked with the Massachusetts Department of Corrections for 21 years, retiring with the rank of Sergeant. In addition, he was an instructor at the Northeast Maritime Institute teaching marine engineering, and he was a principle of King's RV Towing. He is survived by his wife of 24 years, Lisa A. (Molan) King, as well as their three sons and many other friends and family members. From his friend and Vigilant shipmate, Chief Warrant Officer 4 John Rapposo, USCGR (ret.), “ ” Capt. Dennis A. Lupher, passed away Jan. 3, 2022, in Circleville, Ohio. He was born March 1, 1938, in Meadville, Pennsylvania, and graduated from Townville High School in 1956. He then joined the Air Force, remaining in the service until 1962. In 1967, while teaching in Pennsylvania, he joined the Coast Guard Reserve after meeting a recruiter at a ball game, earning a direct commission as lieutenant junior grade. He completed his Masters Degree in Economics in 1969 and went on to earn his Ph.D. in Economic Education in 1973 from Ohio University Athens. During his time with the Coast Guard Reserve, Dennis served nine units with eight commanding officer assignments, with his final Coast Guard assignment as the element commander of Joint Transportation Reserve Unit USTRANSCOM, a unit that coordinates global missions using both military and commercial transportation. He retired in 1996, ending his military career with over 35 years of service. As an educator, Dennis was a part of the Ohio University family for over five decades where he taught courses in micro- and macro-economics, business statistics, and management & consumer survival in the marketplace. He was an active member of the community in the Lions Club and his church, among others. He is survived by his wife of over 39 years, MaryAnn, as well as five children, 10 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. Cmdr. Daniel M. Gregorio of Buffalo, New York, passed away Feb. 16, 2022, at the age of 90. He was a beloved husband of 62 years to Jacqueline, as well as a devoted father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Cmdr. Gregorio’s service to his country was split between two branches of the military. He initially served as a Naval corpsman for six years with the Marines, including duty in Korea; he later joined the Coast Guard Reserve as a chief petty officer, retiring as a senior officer after 32 years. His son Joel also served 32 years as a Coast Guard reservist, and his granddaughter, Samantha, is a reservist at Coast Guard Station Sand Key Florida, working toward 100 years of Gregorio family history in the Coast Guard Reserve. � Issue 1 • 2022 � RESERVIST 51 K erer ou smile.
