RESERVIST MAGAZINE HEADQUARTERS UPDATE Back to fighting weight: Body Comp Program resumes By MyCG Staff The Body Composition Program will resume in October with all administrative consequences in effect. With nearly 70% of the total Coast Guard workforce vaccinated, the impacts of COVID-19 on our members are beginning to diminish significantly. Vaccines are readily available and easily accessible resulting in our service and most of our communities return to pre-pandemic conditions. The Coast Guard has determined that, given these conditions, it is appropriate to implement the Body Composition Program. The boatcrew physical fitness test will once again be available for those that are medically qualified as a continuation of the pilot program. The Coast Guard Weight and Body Fat Standards Program Manual will be updated to include: • Abdominal circumference as an additional body composition measure to be used with maximum allowable weight • 2/3 taping as permanent body composition measures. (Men are taped in two places: at their neck and abdominal circumference; women are taped in three places: at their neck, waist, and hips.) Screening process Body composition tracks the relationship between height and weight. First, your height is recorded. Next, your weight is recorded, with appropriate weight subtracted for clothing. If you exceed your MAW, you must be measured for body fat screening (2/3 site taping or AC measurement) and you can chose one or the other. If you pass either measurement, you will be compliant. If you exceed these measurements, you may have the option to take the boat crew PFT, but you will need a medical pre- screening to determine eligibility. Once you pass the PFT, you are compliant. Please note, if you decide not to take the PFT, are not cleared to take PFT, or if you fail the PFT, you will be processed for weight probation or separation. Note: This is an excerpt of an article that was originally posted to MyCG. Reserve master chief advancement panel enacted The R-MCAP will convene annually, beginning in October 2021, to select eligible senior chief petty officers in the Reserve Component, including members of the Selected Reserve and Individual Ready Reserve, for advancement to master chief petty officer for all ratings. Effective immediately, all Reserve E-9 billets have transitioned from rating- specific to universal master chief leadership assignments. The R-MCAP results will be published as an integrated list of ratings, rank ordered by advancement recommendation. Members will then be advanced to vacancies at any available E-9 position. This panel permanently replaces the E-9 Reserve servicewide exam, including this year’s October test. All other paygrades remain unchanged. All members who have completed eligibility requirements for advancement to E-9 will be reviewed by the panel, regardless of intention to compete for advancement. Each candidate must have a current 32 RESERVIST Issue 3 • 2021 EER, dated after July 1, 2020, and no later than July 1, 2021, with their commanding officer’s recommendation. Additionally, all eligibility requirements must have been completed by the servicewide eligibility date of July 1, 2021, which will now be referred to as the panel eligibility date. Members will be able to verify their eligibility using the personal data extract generated in Direct Access in mid-July 2021. It is essential that all senior chiefs review and update their personnel records in preparation for this advancement panel. You should request your electronically imaged-personnel data record (EI- PDR) as soon as possible to allow for ample correction time. It is the candidate's responsibility to ensure their online PDE shows a status of “eligible” in order to be reviewed by the R-MCAP. The PDE for the upcoming R-MCAP must be verified. Incorrect PDE data must be reported to the unit admin or servicing personnel office.
